Menonte feels it's a special honour to be named captain of this
year's Markham Waxers junior A hockey club. In having the C sewn on his
blue and white uniform, the 20-year-old Woodbridge resident acknowledged
it entails more than just showing up at the rink to suit up and play. [article]
FEBRUARY
7, 2003—The Markham Waxers drew first blood in its
first-round best-of-seven Provincial Junior A Hockey League playoff series
against the Thornhill Rattlers on Thursday after cruising to a 7-0 road

JANUARY 31, 2003—With one player eligibility card left open and
a manpower shortage on their blueline, the Markham Waxers signed
Mike Standon to their
Provincial Junior A Hockey League roster on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2,
190-pound 19-year-old Mississauga resident began the season with the
Oakville Blades and was involved in a trade with the Georgetown Raiders.
The deal, however, fell through and Standon elected to leave the team to
concentrate on his studies at McMaster University in Hamilton. [article]
JANUARY 29, 2003—When the Markham Waxers began their current
Provincial Junior A Hockey League campaign, their goal was to finish atop
the standings in the south conference. While two victories in their last
three games of the season this weekend would enable the Waxers to fulfill
their agenda, it could create a major inconvenience. [article]
JANUARY 27, 2003—It's been a year of firsts for Markham Waxers'
head coach Russ Herrington. Last week, the Waxers' bench boss coached in
his first Provincial Junior A Hockey League all-star game. [article]
JANUARY 20, 2003—Albert
Ferrante acknowledges he doesn't play the game of hockey in the
offensive end with a lot of flair. To prove his point, the fourth-year
Markham Waxers' veteran defenceman doesn't score a lot of goals or
accumulate a lot of assists. But the 19-year-old rearguard does places a
high priority in preventing the opposition from scoring. While Ferrante's
on-ice exploits might not be eye-catching to those watching the game from
the stands, rival Provincial Junior A Hockey League clubs have paid homage
to what he's done this season by selecting him to take part in tomorrow's
annual all-star game in Georgetown. [article]

Olidis was glad to relieve himself of a nemesis that had been
badgering him through most of the Provincial Junior A Hockey League
season. Eluding the dreaded plague, known as the injury bug, the
16-year-old Markham Waxers' rookie forward has been regaining the form
that made him a valued commodity when the club was officially rewarded his
playing rights in a ruling from the Ontario Hockey Association last

Liam Bowen last played in the
Provincial Junior A Hockey League. But judging by the way the 20-year-old
Markham resident has been performing this season in his second tour of
duty in the league and as a first-year member of the Markham Waxers, itąs

Junior A Hockey League regular season in early September, head coach
Russ Herrington had
expectations his team would exhibit gradual improvement throughout the
year. With the regular season a few games past the halfway mark, you will
get little if any complaints from the Waxers' coaching staff of the effort

DECEMBER 1, 2002—For Michael Barrett, November 29 will be a homecoming of sorts when he steps onto the Centennial Arena ice surface. After labouring five years in the Ontario Hockey League, the 20-year-old Markham native will be coming home after the Markham Waxers acquired his playing rights on Tuesday after he cleared OHL waivers.

Tony Rossi in the offseason
from the Wexford Raiders it was expected the veteran right winger would
make a major contribution by scoring a tonne of goals. To date, the

about taking four out of a possible four points, which his club did last
weekend in its two Provincial Junior A Hockey League contests. However, in
defeating the Thornhill Rattlers 9-2 at Centennial Arena on Friday and the
Pickering Panthers 4-3 on the road Sunday, coach Herrington would like to

about the playoffs at this juncture of the Provincial Junior A Hockey
League season. But the Markham Waxers received an early baptism of what

Cottreau acknowledged he was not happy with the way he was
performing as a member of the Markham Waxers during the early segment of
the Provincial Junior A Hockey League schedule. But in recent days, the

Nathaniel Brooks took to
the ice for last Friday's Provincial Junior A Hockey League game against the
Oshawa Legionaires he decided to loosen his hold of the stick. The move paid
big dividends for the 16-year-old Markham resident as he notched not only
his first junior A goal, but his second and third of the night to help the
Waxers double the count on the Legionaires 8-4 at Centennial Arena. [article]

SEPTEMBER 30, 2002—Although the Provincial Junior A Hockey League
season is still in its infant stages, Markham Waxers head coach
Russ Herrington still
hasnąt anointed a Number one goalkeeper. But based on what transpired last
weekend, first-year netminder
Anthony Guadagnolo took
a giant step towards alleviating Herringtonąs dilemma. On Friday, the
16-year-old Markham native posted his first junior A shutout when the Waxers
pasted the visiting Thornhill Rattlers 9-0. The following night, Guadagnolo
was given his second consecutive start and handled 41 of 45 shots, including
a couple of big saves in the third period, to enable the Waxers to earn a
4-4 tie with the visiting North York Rangers. [article]
