Markham Waxers News Items

The Waxers are collecting stuffed animals and non-perishable food items at our game on December 17th.

The Markham Waxers are pleased to announce that on Friday, December 17 in our game versus Pickering, we held our third annual Teddy Bear Toss. The Waxers teamed up with the Markham Fire Department's Christmas Toy Drive for The Salvation Army  to assist in bringing Christmas to those in the community that would otherwise go without.  We asked that each person attending the game bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal which they "Toss"ed on to the ice after Josh Jacobs opened the scoring, 8 minutes in to the contest (which the Waxers went on to win 6-4).  We also be collected non-perishable food items for the Markham Food Bank on this night.  All told, we collected 346 stuffed animals, numerous other toys and an overwhelming amount of food!   The Waxers thank all of those who participated in the Teddy Bear Toss and Food Drive this year - it was our biggest and best event to date!

In 2002, the Waxers teamed up with our fans to assist the Markham-Stouffville Hospital prior to Christmas.  In our first home game of December, Friday the 13th when we host Ajax, we  hosted the first "Teddy Bear Toss".  Those bringing stuffed animals took them into the game for the "Teddy Toss". Just over five minutes in to the game, Mark Menonte scored to unleash the stuffed animals.  The Markham Waxers Novice team then came on the ice to collect the animals. All the toys were presented to the hospital after the game.

Then in 2003, we repeated the process on December 12th, when we hosted Pickering.  A new record was set when Josh Jacobs touched off the Toss with a goal just 2:02 in to the opening period.  The Waxers supplied the gifts from this night to the York Region Children's Aid Society.

Please make plans to be part of this important night and assist our local charities!
