KITCHEN AND BALL LOOK FORWARD TO UPCOMING WAXERS SEASON
The 1999 OHL Priority Draft concluded almost two weeks ago and the Waxers saw three key members of their club, all 15-year-olds get drafted by OHL clubs on that weekend. After Daniel Sisca was selected 35th overall the Waxers saw two other prime prospects, namely, defenceman Jimmy Ball and centre Joel Kitchen hear their names called during the special OHL Bantam Draft, the first ever for the OHL.

We finally caught up with the two youngsters last night (Ball and Kitchen) and their respective fathers and asked them to reflect on their future plans and to share their thoughts now that they've had some time to absorb the consequences.

You can listen to the short audio clips yourself but to summarize their thoughts there was mixed emotions felt all around.

Randy Kitchen, father of Joel looked at the positive side of things as Joel was picked by a fine organization (Erie Otters) and perhaps reflecting on the large number of young men playing hockey in this province it was still an honour to be selected. Joel, the hard-working and talented forward was extremely pleased to be picked by Erie but looked forward to playing a year or two more with the Waxers and he wouldn't rule out the possibility of going the NCAA route if the opportunity arose.

Jimmy BallBrian Ball was quite disappointed with the fact that his son Jimmy wasn't selected in day one of the OHL Draft but emphasized the positives as well, the young defenceman was selected in the first round of the first ever OHL Bantam draft and the NCAA route was on the horizon as a very real possibility. Jimmy's looking forward to rejoining his Waxers, certainly he made the adjustment from Minor Bantam to Junior quickly and was perhaps the most improved player for the Waxers from beginning of the year.JS
