Two down and one to go. According to Markham Waxers
general manager Larry
Herrington, that's the situation on the trading front as he
attempts to fine tune his club's Provincial Junior A Hockey League roster
prior to this Friday's trade deadline.
After acquiring goalkeeper
Scott Gray from the Pickering Panthers, the Waxers injected some
spark to their roster with the purchase of 19-year-old forward
Andrew Dias from the
Mississauga Chargers for an undisclosed amount of cash.
"We identified three specific needs and when we identified those needs we
identified those players. Our energy and goaltending were two of those
needs so I'm exceptionally happy with what we got," said GM Herrington of
his two new additions.
Suiting up in 32 games for the Chargers this season and amassing nine
goals and 13 assists, the 5-foot-8, 185-pound Toronto resident brings a
high level of intensity to the table.
"He's a physical player and a great skater, he works hard and comes to
play every night. He just adds another dimension that we felt that we
needed," cited Herrington.
Still hoping to make one more deal, the Waxers would like to find a
seasoned defenceman.

With Gray and Dias making their debuts last Friday at
Centennial Arena, the Waxers edged the Vaughan Vipers 6-5 in overtime.
Pat Porretta scored
three goals, including the game winner on a breakaway.
Jamie Wright,
Jason Duffy and
Ryan Olidis added
singles.
On Sunday, the Waxers visited St. Michael's College School Arena and
skated off with a 5-2 decision and improved their first-place south
conference record to 26-8-5-1.
Fending off a case of the jitters on Friday, Gray set the tone in Sunday's
contest by making several key saves when the Waxers were fending off a
two-man disadvantage in the first period.
Porretta scored twice while
Rainor Guminny,
Kevin Cribari and
Nathaniel Brooks
added singles.
The Waxers host the Panthers this Friday at 8 p.m. and go on the road
Sunday to face the north conference-leading Aurora Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
