WAXERS ADD PAIR OF COACHES
The Markham Waxers Junior A Hockey Club would like to announce that there have been some changes to the coaching staff for the upcoming season. General Manager Larry Herrington and Head Coach Russ Herrington are pleased to welcome Mike Heaney and Mike McIntyre as newly appointed Assistant Coaches. Both are former teammates of Russ Herrington's and both bring a wealth of playing experience to the table.

MIKE HEANEY
Mike has been hired as the defense coach. He had a storied, championship filled career. Starting in junior, Mike won 2 Championships in the same number of years. While playing with the St. Michael's Buzzers in 1988-89 season, he was part of the team that finished in first place in the Metro League, won the playoff Championship and then defeated Sarnia to capture the OHA Junior B Championship. The following year, playing in Thornhill with Head Coach Herrington, Mike again captured the Metro League Championship.

From the junior ranks, Mike went on to play at Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) in the NCAA. After three years at RIT, Mike began his professional career which included stops in the East Coast Hockey League and the Central Hockey League. While playing for the Wichita Thunder (1995) in the CHL, Mike was part of another first place and championship team, winning the Ray Miron Cup. Mike will be counted on to develop our defensemen in all aspects of the game and be able to teach the players what it takes to win.

MIKE MCINTYRE
Mike, a native of Thornhill, has been hired on as the Goaltending Coach for the upcoming season. Mike was a teammate of Russ Herrington's in Junior and in University when they played together for 3 years at University of Western Ontario. After playing with Richmond Hill and Thornhill in his first two years of junior, Mike was selected as the Metro League 2nd All-Star Team Goalie in the 1989-90 season when he starred for Bramalea. From there, Mike went off to UWO and played for three years with the Mustangs. A highlight for Mike came in his first year when he was voted the Goaltender of the Tournament at the RPI (Renesellear) Engineers Christmas Tournament. After graduating from UWO, Mike toiled for the Toronto Planets of the Professional Roller Hockey League in the 1993 season. While playing junior and university hockey, Mike was also a top instructor at the Jim Park Goaltending Schools. Mike also appeared in the video "The Shooter's Edge", produced by Jim Park and the Courtnall brothers, Russ and Geoff.

Mike will be looked upon to assist the goaltenders not only in technique, but also in the mental aspect of the game.

The entire Waxers staff are excited about the addition of these two coaches and expect that their experince and energy and will help the players immensely in the 2001-2002 season.
