Markham
traveled down Highway 7 for their final meeting of the regular season with the Thornhill
Major Islanders, and another game in recent weeks that could be a preview of
the first round of the playoffs. Having
played the night before well under the lineup limit, the Waxers
were furthered hampered by the injury bug and could only dress 3 defensemen.
The Waxers put in a gritty performance in
which the 4-3 final reflected the play of the Thornhill
goaltender who kept his team in the game all night long.
Waxer goalie Rob
Cundari was solid in net for
Markham
securing the victory with 29 stops.
Ben
Cottreau opened the scoring with a powerplay
goal and Thornhill tied the score before the end of
the first period.
Markham
would open the score in the second as well, on Daniel
Torres first of two in the period, but again Thornhill
would tie the score.
Markham
opened the lead up to 4-2 heading in to the third by goals by Torres and Chris
Korte in the final 5 minutes of the period.
Thornhill scored a powerplay
goal to make it 4-3 midway through the third but Cundari
shut the door the rest of the way for the victory.
