Markham
continued their dominate ways as they hosted the Ajax Axemen
in what would be the final regular season match up between the two and with
Markham looking for revenge for an earlier January loss to the visitors.
The Waxers started off a tough 3 games in 2
½ days weekend with a 9-2 pounding of the Axemen,
being lead by Ben Cottreau’s
hat trick which pushed him to the 40 goal plateau on the season.
Cottreau
opened the scoring and the lead was doubled just 20 seconds later on a goal by Riley
Hill. Andrew
Dias made it 3-0 just 28 seconds later and the rout was seemingly on. Ajax
would get one back before the end of the first and score the first goal of the
second to make it 3-2 before two Cottreau goals
within 40 seconds put the game to bed.
With
the Waxers up 5-2 entering the third period,
Markham exploded for 4 more goals off the sticks of Darryl
Flowers, Dias, Stephen Wong
and Daniel Torres, to leave
no doubt on the scoreboard and earn Greg
van’t Hof his 11th
win of the season.
