Markham
traveled to
Oshawa
for their fourth and final meeting with the Legionaires
with only one thing on their mind – defeat the only South Division team that
still had a chance to catch them for fourth place in the standings.
The Waxers were successful in all but
securing fourth place with a convincing 6-2 victory in one of their best played
games of January.
The
Waxers opened the scoring on a powerplay
as Riley Hill found a loose puck
in a goal mouth scrum and buried his 11th of the season.
Shortly after
Oshawa
tied the game at 1-1, Ben Cottreau
got a powerplay goal to make it 2-1 as his
centering pass from the corner was redirected by an
Oshawa
player in to the net and the teams went to the intermission with
Markham
nursing the one goal lead.
Markham
made it 3-1 early in the second when Jeff
Paisley roofed a shot from the slot to finish off a nice 3-on-2 rush with Nathaniel
Brooks and Steve Ritchie
earning assists.
Oshawa
made it close by scoring shortly after and although Markham
carried the play, they could not get any more goals
in the second and the third period started 3-2 Markham.
The
Waxers blew the game open in the third on two goals
by Stephen Wong just under
3minutes apart and then salted away the game with a Paisley shorthanded marker
with just
6:31
gone in the third period. Greg
van’t
Hof
earned the victory stopping 28 shots.
