The first of an all important home and home weekend series went to Markham as they outlasted the visiting Wexford Raiders by a 7-5 score. The game could simply be billed as the Ben Cottreau Show who picked up 6 points on the night, including a hat trick.

The first period saw the Waxers take the play to the Raiders and finish the period up by a 2-1 score. Cottreau opened the scoring 6:13 in to the game, finishing off a centering pass from Ryan Olidis for his team leading 31^st of the season. After Wexford tied the score, Markham responded just 33 seconds later when Daniel Torres banged home a Chris Korte rebound for his first of two on the night, and the first of two powerplay goals on the night (Cottreau picked up an assist).

In the second, Wexford turned the tide in the early going scoring twice and taking a 3-2 lead in the opening 7 minutes. That woke Markham up as they pounded 4 unanswered goals in to the Wexford net in the final 12:57 of the period. Markham tied the game on a Cottreau shorthanded goal, taking a pass from Korte in the neutral zone and then blasting a slapshot through the goalie’s glove for the 3-3 score. Steve Ritchie would put the Waxers on top to stay, when he one-timed home a Josh Jacobs pass while in a 4-on-4 situation with the second assist credited to Nathan Morris. Olidis bagged a powerplay goal of his own, finishing off a goalmouth pass from Cottreau for the 5-3 lead. Torres finished the scoring, much like his first as he banged home another Korte rebound.

The third was a little dicey as the Raiders cut the lead to 6-5 with 10:36 left before, fittingly, Cottreau but the finishing touches on the evening. Intercepting a pass while shorthanded, Cottreau streaked in and deked the Wexford goalie completely before roofing the puck to cap the hat trick.
