Midway
through the game in Pickering it looked like it would be Markham's fourth
straight defeat but then something happened as the Waxers sprung to life,
trialing 6-1, and turned a certain defeat in to the biggest comeback in years
for the blue and white as they were victorious 8-7.
Pickering
opened the scoring only to see Ben
Cottreau (from Ryan Olidis)
tie the game 12 seconds later with a blistering wrist shot over the goalie's
shoulder. The rest of the first belonged to Pickering who took a 4-1 lead
to the intermission.
The
Panthers picked up where they left off in the early second stretching the lead
to 6-1 by the 6:42 mark. Then the Waxers awoke. Daniel
Torres (from Olidis and Cottreau) scored on a powerplay, followed by a
terrific unassisted, second effort goal by Nathaniel
Brooks (he scored while falling down and with his back to the net) and an
unassisted shorthanded goal by Stephen
Wong to make 6-4. Pickering bagged one more before the end oif the
second to make it 7-4.
The
Waxers owned the third period scoring four answered to seal the victory.
It started with a Jeff Paisley
bullet wrist shot on the powerplay (assisted by Cottreau and Olids), followed
by a bullet slapshot from Andrew
Dias (assist to Brooks and Wong). Then, another powerplay goal as
Cottreau finished a pretty passing play started by Olidis and Paisley, and then
Dias with his second of the period, stuffing home a rebound to finish a rush
started by Wong and Brooks. There was still 4:30 left on the clock at
this point and the Waxers smothered the shocked Panthers the rest of the way to
earn their 10th victory of the season.
