An
exciting and tight checking affair between the Waxers and Buzzers ended up
being a blow out in favour of the South leading St Michael's squad who erupted
for 4 goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to end up victorious by an 8-3
score. A depleted Waxer defence corps ran out of gas down the stretch and
could not contain the speedy Buzzers for the entire match.
The
Waxers opened the scoring in the first, after spending much of the opening
period killing penalties, when Markham would strike on a powerplay of their
own. Ryan Olidis and Daniel
Torres led the rush up the ice and after a shot attempt was blocked in
front, the puck caromed to Nathaniel
Brooks who buried the puck in to the wide open net for the only goal in the
first period.
Markham
upped the lead to 2-0 just over 1 minute in to the second when Ben
Cottreau and Andrew Dias
combined to set Torres free down the wall and he barrelled in on net sliding a
backhand through the goalie's legs for the goal. St Michael's would tie
the game with two of their own in the second half of the period.
The
Waxers took their final lead early in the third period, capitalizing on a power
play in the opening minute when Brooks fed Cottreau, who circled the net and
then found Olidis with a beautiful backdoor pass for the Waxers last lead of
the night. The Buzzers responded quickly, tying the game a few minutes
later and scoring the eventual winner with 13 minutes left on the clock.
