A
weird night in Oshawa in which the Waxers just could not get anything going and
although they did not allow the host Legionaires many scoring opportunities,
Oshawa was able to capitalize on what they got and then added two last minute
empty net goals for the 6-3 win over the Waxers.
Markham
went in to the second trailing 2-0 although they out shot Oshawa 12 -7 in the
first period. They cut in to the lead when a mad scramble in front ended
with Jeff Paisley finding the
loose puck and firing home his second goal as a Waxer and his 4th of the season
(assists to Ryan Olidis and Rainor
Guminny). Again, heavily outshooting Oshawa by a 14-8 count, the
Waxers allowed two more goals and went in to the third down 4-1.
Markham
pretty much owned the third period but after two early goals, could not find a
way to beat the Oshawa goalie and tie the game. The start of the period
looked promising as Nathaniel
Brooks took a Josh Jacobs
pass and stuffed home his 8th of the year, on the powerplay, to make it 4-2
just 33 seconds in to the final period. The Waxers then scored on the
next shift after a terrific individual effort by Derrell
Levy saw a rebound pop out to the side of the net which Stephen
Wong corralled and dropped to Jeff
Weiss who banged it in to the wide open net for the 4-3 score.
Markham pounded 18 shots at the net while holding Oshawa to 4 before they would
score on their final two shots in to the open net and seal the victory.
