The Waxers
faced their closest (geographically) rival in the Spirit of Stouffville on
Friday night. It was a poor crowd for what often proves to be a great hockey
game. Both teams show up ready to play and battle hard. This evening was no
exception.
The Waxers
came out on fire taking the play to the Spirit and were rewarded with the first
goal of the game. Ryan Olidis picked up an errant pass in the neutral zone and
turned up ice quickly, Daniel Torres also jumped into the rush creating a 2 on
1. As they entered the Spirit zone, Olidis made a great pass and Torres sniped
a hard shot blocker side about half way up the net and the sliding goalie could
not find the handle. Shortly there after, with the Waxers shorthanded, Albert
Ferrante corralled an attempted dump in and chipped it off the boards and out
past three Spirit players to Josh Jacobs who took the puck at full speed and
headed on the breakaway. Anyone that knows Jacobs knows he's not getting caught
from behind and he didn't. He made a great move in close on the tender and
roofed the puck up off the crossbar and in. Stouffville would find the net
later in the period and the Waxers would head to the room up 2 to 1.
The second
saw the Waxers continue to pour it on. On the powerplay, A great display of
puck control ended as Torres put the puck back to Andrew Dias (quarterbacking
the powerplay this evening) on the point and his low shot proved to be a great
one as David Lyall deflected home his first Jr. A goal through the tenders arm
and body to give the Waxers the 3-1 lead. Later on the frame the power-play
would connect again. In a similar play, Torres fed Olidis on the point his hard
high shot was to hard for Darryl Flowers parked in front to tip, and too much
for the goalie to stop however it went wide, bounced off the glass right to
Nathaniel Brooks for the open net tap in. The
Spirit could not find the net in the period and it ended 4-1.
The third
period saw the Waxers take a little more defensive role and they protected their
lead. Greg van't Hof played great in net and turned away every attempt the
Spirit could muster. The Waxers took the game after a solid effort all around
with the final remaining 4-1.
