The Markham Waxers travelled to Ajax on Grey Cup Sunday to take on the Axemen and completed a perfect weekend coming home with a 6-2 victory.  Markham broke open the game with 4 goals in the second period and cruised to the victory out shooting the Axemen 43-23.

Ajax opened the scoring on a power play around the 6 minute mark of the first before would strike back with two goals in 34 seconds to take a 2-1 lead after one period.  Mark Menonte opened the scoring with a pretty goal mid way through the period.  Joe Rothwell intercepted an Ajax pass in the neutral zone and head manned the puck to Daniel Torrres.  He fed it to Menonte who went in on a 2-on-2 rush with Stephen Wong.  Menonte used  Wong as a pick and cut back in to the slot on his forehand before roofing a terrific wrist shot over the goalie's blocker to tie the game.  Then, the next shift, Mike Diamond kept the puck in at the blueline and sent it deep behind the net to Kevin Cribari.  He centered to Tony Rossi who eluded two Ajax defenders and sniped a beauty to give the Waxers the lead, which they would never relinquish.

 Markham upped the lead to 3-1 early in the second period on a power play of their own.  After Ben Cottreau won a faceoff deep in Ajax territory, Cribari moved the puck to Rothwell, he fed Pat Porretta at the side of the net, Porretta deked the goalie and threw the puck back in the slot where Rossi one-touched it to Cottreau who stuffed it in to the wide open net for his 20th of the year.  Ajax would make it 3-2 before the Waxers blew the game wide open with the final three goals.  Jeff Weiss bagged the insurance marker midway through the period for his first Junior A goal, which capped off a furious two minute onslaught that left the Ajax goalie gasping for air.  Diamond and Porretta picked up assists on the goal which saw Weiss beat the goalie through the legs with a bullet wrister from the face off dot.  Liam Bowen was then sent streaking through the neutral zone after a clearing pass from Ryan Steane.  Bowen made a quick move past the defenseman and shot the puck back across the grain, ringing it in to the net off the post high to the glove side for his first of two goals on the evening.  Bowen completed the scoring on a power play with just under 4 minutes left in the period when he banged home a rebound (that seemed to sit in the slot for an eternity) off a Jamie Wright point shot for his 20th goal of the campaign.

The third period was rather uneventful with the exception of a terrific full two minute 5-on-3 penalty kill by the Waxers that did not allow a shot a net.  Anthony Guadagnolo stopped 21 shots en route to the victory.
