Markham travelled to Newmarket for the only time this season and, after a classy tribute to the fallen Canadian heroes of the two World Wars, the Waxers completed the season series sweep with a 5-3 victory. The win was especially nice as the Waxers were able to overcome the abusive fans and the incredibly creative shot counting skills that all teams face when going to the Hurricanes den.

Markham opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period on the power play to take a 1-0 lead in to the first intermission. Mark Menonte fed Kevin Cribari at the point and after his long slapper was stopped, Liam Bowen slammed home the rebound from the side of the net for his first of three goals on the evening.

Newmarket tied the game early in the second on a power play of their own and took a short lived lead just over a minute later. Markham starting goalie Kevin Sit had been injured on a rush a few seconds prior to the 2-1 goal and Anthony Guadagnolo was put in. This goal was the only shot that Newmarket would take that would get past Guadagnolo. The Waxers then exploded to recapture the lead, the momentum and the control of the game with 3 goals in a 2:30 span. Bowen scored his second of the night finishing off a nice 2-on-1 with Ryan Steane after Menonte had cleared the defensive zone and sent them on their way. Stephen Wong then scored his first Junior A goal when he stepped out from behind the net and wristed the puck through the legs of the Hurricane tender. Nathaniel Brooks and Cribari earned the assists on a textbook example of forechecking that lead to the goal. The Waxers then scored the game winning goal on a power play to finish the onslaught. Tony Rossi and Ben Cottreau moved the puck on the right hand side of the ice before Cottreau made a terrific back door pass to Pat Porretta standing all alone at the side of the crease and his one-timer was in the net before the goalie moved.

Bowen completed his hat trick scoring in the first minute of the third period directly off a face-off in the Hurricanes end. Menonte won the face off cleanly forward and then made a drop pass that Bowen pounded in to the net for the 5-2 lead. The score would end up 5-3 as a Newmarket centering pass deflected off a Waxer defenseman's leg in front with just under 4 minutes left in regulation.
