Twenty-four hours after a dismal performance, the Markham Waxers surged back with a solid 60 minute effort and defeated the cross-town rival Thornhill Rattlers 6-2.

The game was controlled by the Waxers in all three zones for much of the contest, starting almost from the first drop of the puck. Liam Bowen scored a shorthanded goal in the first five minutes to give the Waxers the 1-0 lead after the first period. Streaking hard to the net on a 2-on-1 started by a Mike Pain pass to Tony Rossi, Bowen redirected the Rossi pass in to the wide open net for his third of the year.

The Waxers jumped ahead 2-0 early in the second when Rainor Guminny won a race for the loose puck in the neutral zone and chipped it across to Ryan Olidis. Streaking in on a breakaway, Olidis made no mistake beating the goalie to the blocker side for his first Jr A goal. Thornhill would cut the lead in half with their first goal just over 2 minutes later. Ryan Steane restored the two goal lead when he deflected home a Kevin Cribari blast from the point during a Waxer power play. Rossi had the other assist. Thornhill would score a second time for a 3-2 Markham lead after 40 minutes.

The Waxers scored the only goals in the third period, starting with a pair of goals from Mark Menonte. His first, set up by Rossi and Olidis, saw Menonte stuff home a centering pass while all alone in the slot in the opening seconds of the period. The second, at the 4 minute mark, was scored when Rossi sent Menonte in on a breakaway while shorthanded and he deked the goalie to his forehand and slid it home for his second of the evening. The Waxers finished the scoring when Steane bagged his second power play goal of the night, banging home a beautiful saucer pass from Rossi with under 4 minutes to play. The second assist was earned by Jamie Wright. In case you are wondering, Rossi ended the night with 5 assists.

Anthony Guadagnolo earned his second consecutive victory stopping 33 shots along the way.
