RETURN THE FAVOUR AND HAND WAXERS FIRST LOSS OF THE YEAR
The 2002-03 Waxers suffered their first loss of
the preseason, a lopsided 9-5 defeat, when they travelled down the jam
packed 407 to Milton Friday night. The Waxers showed little of
the energy and offensive flair that was evident in their first two
games and were out shot by a 28-18 count on the evening.
Milton opened the scoring a little over 5 minutes in to the game
and Markham tied it up 1-1 briefly on Ryan Steane's first of
three goals on the night, a power play marker at the 8:49 mark.
Shortly after hat, Milton scored the first of three unanswered goals
to open up a 4-1 lead with 5 minutes left to play in the period.
Steane would score a second time, again on the power play to make it
4-2 at the end of the first.
Steane would complete the power play hat trick early in the second
to make it 4-3. Milton surged ahead 5-3 with 4 minutes left in
the period before Liam Bowen would cut in to the lead with the
Waxers fourth power play marker to make the score 5-4 after two.
Milton blew the game wide open with 3 goals in 1:06 early in the
third period and basically cruised the rest of the way home. Pat
Porretta would score the Waxers final goal with 16 minutes left in
the game and Milton rounded out the scoring with just over 1 minute
left in the game.
Tony Rossi picked up three assists on the night while
Porretta and Kevin Cribari had two a piece and Nathaniel
Brooks and Mike Pain each had one.
