NEWMARKET HURRICANES - - - - 5
WAXERS OPEN PRESEASON WITH NARROW VICTORY
The Markham Waxers opened the 2002 preseason with a narrow 6-5 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes on a sunny Sunday August afternoon.  A typical exhibition game with disorganized play, poor defensive coverage and a multitude of penalties, Markham lead most of the opening half but entered the final period trailing 5-4.  Ben Cottreau had 2 goals, while Pat Porretta, Tony Rossi, Joe Rothwell and Mark Menonte (with the winner) added singles.  Goalies Kevin Sit and Anthony Guadagnolo split the time in net.  Markham returns to the ice on Wednesday night against Milton and host the Hurricanes on September 8.
