The Markham Waxers bounced back to the winning track with a hard fought 3-2 win over Ajax on Tuesday night. Another exciting up and down affair, the game featured strong goaltending performances at both ends as Dan Leclair stopped 27 shots en route to his 7th victory of the season.

The Waxers got on the board first and led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes. While on a powerplay, a pretty 5 way passing play resulted in Albert Ferrante feeding Paul Robinson at the side of the net and he in turn found Jason Young cruising through the slot. Young made no mistake one-timing Robinson's pass behind the Axemen keeper.

The Axemen tied the game at 1-1 when they scored at the 2:16 mark of the second period. The Waxers regained the lead when they broke out on a 4-1 break at the 7:01 mark. Kevin Tompkins made the outlet pass to Ferrante who then played give and go with Robinson before snapping a hard wrist shot through the five hole for his second goal of the year. The period ended with the Waxers ahead 2-1.

Ajax then tied the game again when they scored their final goal just under 7 minutes in to the thiord period. From there on, the Waxers controlled the play and had all the scoring chances. The eventually hit pay dirt with just 1:43 showing on the clock. Alex Stoyan broke up a 1-on-1 and quickly moved the puck to Steve Nobili. He redirected the pass to Robbie Burrows who in turn hit a streaking James Regan on the left wing. Regan blew by the defense and powered his way to the net, depositing the winning goal on a nice deke. The Waxers then shut down the Axemen and secured their 3rd win in the past 4 games stretching their first place lead to 7 points.

The Waxers faceoff against the same Axemen, this time on home ice, Friday night at 8:00pm.
