On a very busy night with the pre-game festivities (Year of the Goaltender and Waxers Graduation Appreciation Night) the Waxers went out and defeated the Stouffville Spirit 4-2 in a game that was technically meaningless for the Markham club.

The Waxers struck quickly to get on the board in the early in the first period when Jason Young scored his sixth of the year from defensemen Jim Ulcar and Jimmy Ball. Four minutes later it was 2-0 when Kevin Tompkins, recent recipient of the Most Improved Player Award, scored his 26th of the year from Lawne Snyder and Alex Stoyan. Snyder's assist marked the first of the four honoured graduates to get on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile Jeremy Wenzel was holding the fort at his end turning aside all 15 shots he faced and the Waxers took that 2-0 margin into the second period.

With five minutes left in the middle frame Stouffville finally got on the board to halve the Waxer lead at 2-1. However, just 19 seconds later, Tom Kotsopoulos converted a Tompkins feed who in turn had taken a Wenzel clearing pass to restore the two goal margin at 3-1. With just over two minutes remaining in the period Rob Mazzuca wired in a powerplay goal from Snyder and Kotsopoulos and the game was basically over as the Waxers took a 4-1 lead into the dressing room. Now all four graduates appeared on the scoresheet. Wenzel's assist was his seventh of the year tying him for the franchise record.

Stouffville would score the lone goal of the final period but the Waxers dominated the period from start to finish but were unable to extend their lead.

Wenzel ended up turning aside 35 of 37 shots he faced and Kotsopoulos ended up with the game winner (with Wenzel tying the franchise record for most assists by a goaltender on the play).
