Markham and Vaughan played game four of their
division semi-finals as the friendly series finally continued after a
layoff that began after the Waxers dominant victory on Monday night. This
was a night when nothing would go the Waxers way and despite outplaying
the visitors for much of the contest, particularly in the opening frame
the boys in blue and white fell 6-0.
The contest got off on the wrong foot even prior to it's beginning as their
was an administrative mixup that saw the start delayed by 35-40 minutes as
League personnel scrambled to get officials to the contest.
The Vipers struck first and quickly when with just 39 seconds gone off the
clock they scored to make it 1-0. Two more goals in the remainder of the period
saw the score at 3-0 after one. The score was by no means indicative of the
scoreboard as the Waxers held the edge in play for much of the period but
weren't able to catch any breaks of any sort, shooting wide, hitting iron and
up against a netminder who played well.
The second period was much more of an even contest but the Vipers would
score again as the Waxers were snakebit on this night.
In the third period two powerplay goals concluded the scoring but at no time
in the contest did the Waxers give in to whatever frustrations might have
accumulated and kept plugging away but to no avail on this night.
The conclusion of the contest almost became the feature event as for some
reason the Viper Head Coach decided that it was a good time to taunt the Waxers
bench and in particular the coaching staff. After a short verbal exchange order
was restored.
Game five goes in Vaughan on Saturday
night (Mar. 4) @ 6:00pm as the Waxers face the ultimate clutch situation
as they now trail in the series 3-1. The Waxers, certainly no strangers to
adversity and relishing the underdog role seem to rise and play their best with
their backs against the wall. That Waxer resiliency will be put to the test
tomorrow night and there is no reason to believe that they won't rise to the
occasion.
