PLAYOFF PREVIEW: WAXERS
AND TIGERS SQUARE OFF IN TOUGH FIRST ROUND MATCHUP
The playoffs are here and Tuesday night the Markham Waxers and Aurora
Tigers kick off their best-of-5-game series in Aurora. This series promises to provide to
hockey fans and observers some of the best hockey that you'll see during the playoffs.
The Waxers and Tigers played four regular season matches that saw the
Tigers take three out of four games. With that single stat it might be tempting for a
casual observer to conclude that Markham's got their work cut out for them. That's fair
enough to state, it goes without saying that playoffs are the toughest time of the year,
but also where some of the most interesting and intense competition takes place.
By the way, it's not as if the Tigers blew the Waxers out or anything, two
of the three victories Aurora had over Markham were overtime decisions. If the truth
really be known this is as close to a "pick-em" series as you might see, in
three of four contest this season a single goal separated the victor from the loser, the
only "blow-out" occuring when Aurora "trounced" the Waxers 5-3.
