PLAYOFF HOCKEY
By Brett Barrer, Ian Malcolm and Chris Petracco Markham Waxers

The playoffs are the most emotional time of the season. Knowing that every game is crucial adds more pressure on everyone to be effective game in and game out. Playoff hockey distinguishes the men from the boys, the men thrive under pressure and play better.

PLAYOFF HOCKEY IS DIFFERENT!

After the final buzzer sounded on Sunday, the Waxers start a totally new season. This is a season where individual stats, skill and points take on a lesser meaning. This new season is known as the playoffs. The playoff season is the part of the year where determination alone will win a team a championship. Unlike the regular season, play tends to be very intense, as players realize, everything they worked all year to gain now means nothing. Playing almost every night, getting rest and avoiding injuries is key. Player's bodies must work as well oiled machines in order to achieve success.

If a team plans to take a serious run at the playoffs they must play as a team! Every team is working to achive the same goal and which ever team wants it more will win!

As long as you play for the name on the front of the shirt instead of the name on the back you will be guaranteed success!

Playoffs are also a "survival of the fittest", since the games are usually played with a compressed schedule. The fatigue factor is prevalent and every player should be seeking as much rest as possible. Eating properly will keep the body stored of nutrients and vitamins and allow for better performance.

Arrogant players risk losing face in the playoffs. Don't take a team lightly, anything is possible. It is rare that a playoff season gets played through and there is not one or two significant upsets.

Every player should have the confidence in his team and himself. If a team is intimidated then they have already handed their opponents the game. There shouldn't be intimidation among the team members. It gets in the way of success.

There is no room for mistakes in the playoffs. Every player must be at their best and contribute their part to the team.
