TERRIERS TAKE A BIG BIT
OUT OF WAXERS "We can compete with anybody on the ice," insisted Herrington. "The problem is off the ice. I think there's a lack of mental preparation. Our attitude entering games is a problem." While Herrington feels his coaching staff might shoulder a bit of the blame, he said the team as a whole must get its act together. Especially in games when the Waxers face teams with superior records. Facing teams with better records thus far within the Central Conference, the Waxers sport an ugly 0-4-1 mark. "It's up to the 24 or 25 guys to sort it out. Sure they'll need some guidance from us (the coaches) and the guys that have been in the league for a while." "Actually it comes down to the guys being accountable to each other. We give them a game plan and tell them what to expect. Either the guys don't follow it or aren't ready to go."
Trailing 2-0 after two periods, the Waxers cut their deficit on a short-handed breakaway goal by Chris Petracco. But the Terriers added a power-play insurance marker with eight minutes left in regulation time to ice the game. Reflecting on the contest, Herrington cited the first period as being the turning point. He attributed his club's slow start out of the gates to a lack of mental preparation. "It seems to be a bad trend that we are in. We've been letting good teams jump out on us. I don't understand why the guys have trouble getting ready for games."
