WAXERS SAVE BEST FOR LAST
TO EDGE RANGERS But at the same time, he did not complain about skating away with its second straight victory to improve its Provincial Junior A Hockey League Central Conference record to 12-4-1-1. In explaining his club's mediocre on-ice performance, Herrington could not put his finger on it. "Maybe the guys were distracted because it was Halloween, I don't know. (The win) wasn't pretty but we'll definitely take it." For most of the contest, the Waxers were forced to play catch up. Trailing 2-0 after the first five minutes of the opening frame, the Waxers cut its deficit before the period came to a close on a power-play goal by Ian Malcolm. The Waxers accounted for the lone goal of the second period on a tally by Chris Petracco to tie the game at 2-2. The Rangers regained the lead early in the third. But just two minutes later, the Waxers lit the lamp with two quick goals and maintained its advantage at the final buzzer. Daniel Sisca tied the game with a power-play marker and Rob Mazzuca delivered the eventual game-winning tally.
Andrew Robillard and Kevin Tompkins each earned two assists while Brett Barrer, Bryan Lachapelle, Sisca and Lawne Snyder each had one. In assessing the contest, Herrington felt the third period proved to be the game's turning point. The head coach was quick to point out in several victories posted this season the team has a tendency to pick up the pace in the final stanza. "We've had a lot of success in the third period. Maybe the guys are confident going into the third. Or maybe it's our conditioning. But one of these times we could get burned in the third period," he warned. "All I said to the guys between the second and third periods was that we had to go out and win it more than them."
