The Markham Waxers Junior "A’ hockey Club would like to thank you as a continuing sponsor. This is a very special year, Markham’s 100th anniversary in the Ontario Hockey Association-OHA and our 40th year under the established name Markham Waxers Junior hockey club.

The Markham Waxers want to congratulate our Past President Lewis Hewlett. Lewis has been with our Hockey club since 1957.

HISTORY: The Markham Waxers were a farm club of The Toronto Marlborough Major Junior "A" Hockey Club and the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. Our team was very proud to be invited by the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club to participate in the closing ceremonies at Maple Leaf Gardens.

The Markham Junior Hockey club has won championships in 1941, 1967, 1968, 1971 and 1972. We have over 100 players that have gone on to the NHL and WHA, another 200 in the CHL and Ontario Hockey League.

EDUCATION: Our hockey program promotes education and we have over 250 graduate players that have received NCAA scholarships and Canadian University and college educations.

The OPJHL is considered to be "developmental" as teams prepare players to move on to a higher level including OHL, NCAA, Pro Leagues or Canadian University.

SPONSORSHIP: Quite simply, we need your support the cost of providing players with these potential opportunities is high. The team operates each season at a loss and the ownership group funds the short fall. The Markham Waxers Junior Hockey club participates in the Ontario Hockey Association-OHA at what is commonly referred to as the "Tier II" level.

The club is seeking sponsorship so that our program can continue to develop promising players. The sponsorship funds go directly to the day-to-day operation of the team and to assist with special projects. We are a non-profit Ontario corporation established in 1961.

STAFF: All Waxers management, owners and staff are here for the right reasons the love of the game and helping our players become better citizens. Larry Herrington is our General Manager and he is a committed and dedicated professional responsible for the Hockey operations and budget control. Russell Herrington is a former Waxer Alumni and is our head coach, in my opinion he is one of finest young coaches in the game. Larry and Russ are entering their fifth hockey season with our club.

BUDGET COSTS: Hockey is a business. Our budget is in the $140,000.00 per year range. We can only survive with your help. Ice time costs range between $ 34,000.00 per season. Player Jackets, Sweaters, equipment upgrades, tape, socks, and hockey sticks last year cost about $ 42,000.00! Other costs: Insurance, travel and medical supplies. It is generally believed that junior hockey is a moneymaking "business". This is not true. We need your support.
