NIGHT 2001:
FEBRUARY 2, 2001
On Friday, February 2, 2001, the Markham Waxers Junior A Hockey
Club will hold their Graduate Appreciation Night when they host the
Pickering Panthers in their final regular season game of the 2000-2001
season. This night marks the final regular season home game in the OPJAHL
for 8 Markham Waxers. The staff and management are proud to honour 4
players who will finish their careers as Waxers and especially the four
players who have been Waxers for their entire Junior A career.
#30
RICK MARNON
Rick joined the squad just pror to the trade deadline, in this his first
and final season in the OPJAHL After starting the year in Bowmanville,
Rick has made his presence felt in the South Division highlighted by
back-to-back shutouts on January 19 and 21.
#2
ANDY SCHOFIELD
Andy first dressed in the Waxer blue and white on December 8. Andy has
spent parts of the past three seasons in the OPJAHL with stops in
Newmarket, Couchiching, Huntsville and Wellington. A highly skilled
defenseman, he made an immediate impact scoring in his first game.
#29
DAN LECLAIR
Dan has played the entire season with the Waxers after previously spending
time in Georgetown and Huntsville. He was an integral part of the Waxers
great start to the season and won 7 of his first 8 starts in the Blue and
White.
#23
ADAM DOUCETTE
Perhaps the biggest blockbuster trade this season landed Adam in a Waxer
sweater in late November. Adam has made stops in Newmarket, Streetsville,
Port Hope and Aurora. An impact player, Adam has averaged well over 1.5
points a game and combined with his points earned in Aurora, he is among
the leading scorers in the South Division.
#15
ROBERT BURROWS
A three year veteran in the OPJAHL with the Waxers, Robert has continued a
legacy as his grandfather and great uncle both played hockey in Markham
years ago. Robert has always been a loyal Waxer and a terrific teammate.
Robert has staedily improved his offensive numbers over the three years
while becoming one of the elite penalty killers in the league.
#26
ALEX STOYAN
Another three year veteran of the Waxers, Alex has always been the type of
player that the opposition kept an eye on. Alex has delivered some of the
best open ice hits in the league over his career while at the same time
being dependable with the puck. Alex has served as an assistant Captain
the past two seasons with the Waxers.
#4
JIMMY BALL
Off to St. Lawrence University on scholarship next season, Jimmy has spent
the past three years in a Waxer uniform joining the team as a 15 year old.
A terrific defenseman at both ends of the rink, Jimmy has been called on
to perform in all situations and has lived up to expectations. Jimmy
served as an Assistant Captain this season and was selected to the
All-Star Game on the SouthEast team.
#12
KEVIN TOMPKINS
The only 4 year veteran of the Waxers has had a long and storied career
with the Waxers. Hardworking and dedicated, Kevin has improved immensely
over his career in to a dominant force in the OPJAHL. Last year’s Most
Improved Player in the South Division, this year he is among the top
scorers and assist getters. He was selected to the All-Star Game this year
and this season was the team Captain for the second straight year.
The Waxers hope that you make an effort to come out and salute our
Graduates who will be recognized in a pregame ceremony. The Waxers would
like to thank Rick, Andy, Dan, Adam, Robert, Alex, Jimmy and Kevin for
their dedication and effort over their careers. The staff and management
would also like to thank the Burrows, Stoyan, Ball and Tompkins families
for all their support to the team over the past years while their sons
proudly wore the Blue and White.
