Waxers picked up where they left off when these two teams met the previous week
(as they continued to do all the scoring) while Trevor
O'Neill stopped 25 shots, en route to his third shutout of the season, as
the Waxers won 5-0.
Waxers got on the board early in the game scoring twice within the first four
minutes. In fact, the Waxers scored their two fastest goals of the year,
banging home two goals on one shift just 10 seconds apart. On the first, Brett
Molnar won the draw in the Thornhill end and gave the puck to Nathaniel
Brooks. He swept around the net and slid the puck to Derrell
Levy in the slot and Levy stuffed the puck home through the legs of the
goalie for the 1-0 lead. Before Andy "Praxair" Herrington, the
voice of the Waxers, could finish announcing that goal, the Waxers struck again
to make it 2-0. This time, right off the draw, Molnar started a 3-on-2
rush and after chipping the puck ahead, Levy threw a beautiful saucer pass to a
streaking Brooks in front of the net and he buried it for his 6th of the
season. The Waxers would eventually chase the starting goalie from the
nets when they scored their third goal with 6:58 left on the clock in the
period. After the Waxers cleared the puck from their end, Brandon
Rubeo and Leiland
Gauley scooted up the ice on a 2-on-1 rush in which Rubeo's initial shoot
was stopped. Trailer Shareef
Labreche grabbed the rebound and fed it back to Rubeo who stuffed home his
12th o the campaign.
scored the only goal of the second period, just 1:13 in to the frame, when
recently returned Daniel
Torres fought off a number of would be checkers down low, and stuffed home
a wraparound goal with Josh
Jacobs picking up the only assist on the play. The Waxers would then
salt away the victory when Molnar, assisted by Brooks and David
Kostuch, swept in on his off wing and roofed a backhand shot for a
powerplay goal with just 2:40 left in regulation.
definitely earned his shutout tonight as he stopped a number of quality chances
including two breakaways and all varieties of shots while the Waxers found
themselves killing 5-on-3 on two different occasions on the evening.
A special thanks to all in attendance who

Hospital MRI fundraising campaign!
