When one goes to the Casino the general hope is that after spending some time, you come out on top so even if you get down early you stick it out hoping that the odds (and Gods?) will be in your corner and you’ll bounce back. In game three, the Waxers traveled up to Rama to take on Couchiching and thanks to the above formula, reversed a first period 3-0 deficit in to a second period 6-3 lead and cruised to an eventual 9-5 victory.

A determined and energized Terrier squad was all over the Waxers in the first period, scoring 3 powerplay goals in 5 opportunities. The intermission couldn’t have come at a better time as the Waxers were able to fix their wagon just in time as it appeared the wheels were about to fall off.

Instead, they retrofitted the wagon with a supercharged “Hemi” and came out flying to open the second period. Markham capitalized on a powerplay of their own to open the second when Ben Cottreau set up Daniel Torres in the slot for Torres first of the playoffs, just 1:15 in to the period. Then, 17 seconds later, Nathan Morris fed the puck up the wall to Stephen Wong and he sprung Derrell Levy in on a breakaway for Levy’s first of two on the night and suddenly it was 3-2. Five minutes later, a similar play saw David Lyall get the puck to Andrew Dias and he found Rainor Guminny alone in behind the defense and Gumminy’s sweet backhand deke tied the game. The Waxers then surged ahead midway through the period scoring twice in 45 seconds to go up 5-3. The first came off a wicked slapshot from Ryan Olidis who had gotten the puck in the Markham end after a faceoff and took it down the ice for the goal (assists to Dias and Morris). The second saw the same line strike again as Dias cycled the puck low to Josh Jacobs and he centered the puck to Albert Ferrante sneaking in off the point and the Captain made no mistake burying his first ever goal of the playoffs with 9:00 left in the middle frame. Markham completed the improbable second period with a shorthanded goal, as Mike Standon and Wong won battles for loose pucks in the Waxer end and then sent Levy away to the races for the eventual game winning goal.

The third period saw the Terriers strike first, again on the powerplay, to make it 6-4 (which at that point in the game all ten goals had been scored on the same net) before the Waxers responded immediately the next shift and restored the three goal lead when Dias buried a centering pass from Olidis after Cottreau had fed Olidis from behind the net. Couchiching completed their scoring with their 5^th powerplay goal of the night, with their goalie on the bench, with 3:15 left on the clock. Markham sealed the victory by bagging two empty net goals in a matter of 24 sconds with just over 2 minutes left on the clock. The first saw Dias get his tem leading 5^th of the playoffs, with an assist to Cottreau, and the second was Chris Korte’s first of the playoffs with assists to Wong and Levy. Greg van’t Hof earned his third victory in as many games stopping 51 shots.
