Markham completed their 7 game home stand by hosting the Ajax Axemen in their first meeting of the year. The Waxers were powered by 3 goals in the first period on their way to a 5-2 victory.

Liam Bowen opened the scoring when he converted on a 3-on-2 just over 6 minutes in to the period. After Jeff Weiss fed Stephen Wong along the boards, Wong centered the puck to Bowen who scored off a low backhand to the glove side. Ben Cottreau upped the lead with his first of the night about 9 minutes later. Tony Rossi and Ryan Olidis provided the forechecking required to keep the puck in the zone and Olidis fed Cottreau in front. Fighting off his check, Cottreau took a quick shot and then stuffed home his own rebound for the 2-0 lead. Then, with under 2 minutes remaining and the Waxers on a power play, Ryan Steane centered the puck to Rossi. He froze the defense and the goalie as he approached the net and slid a beautiful back door pass to Pat Porretta who slammed it home for the 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Ajax got on the board first in the second period scoring on a power play of their own. That seemed to energize the Waxers who controlled the remainder of the period scoring twice. Steane added the fourth goal to restore the 3 goal lead when he redirected a shot from the boards past the unsuspecting Axemen netminder. David Lyall and Juaquin Chavira earned the assists. Cottreau finished the Waxers scoring when he one-timed a beautiful centering pass from Olidis in to the high glove hand corner shortly after the Axemen changed goalies. Jamie Wright earned the other assist on the goal scored with just over 3 minutes left in the second period.

The third period was a sloppy affair as both teams seemed ready to leave the arena. Ajax added a late power play goal to make the final score a 5-2 margin. Anthony Guadagnolo stopped 38 of 40 shots on the night as the teams combined for 81 shots over 60 minutes.
