NEED THE PLAYER?

The youthful Waxers wiped away any memories from their last contest and put into practice that the painful lesson that to take any team lightly with a less than stellar effort is an invitation for disaster had been learned. The final count added up to a 9-0 shutout of the Rattlers who may have been out matched for stretches still showed heart and didn't "pack it in" despite what the final score might indicate. Seven different Seven different Waxers provided the goals and Anthony Guadagnolo turned away 39 shots to earn his first Jr. A shutout.

The Waxers hit paydirt early when on a powerplay, Ben Cottreau unloaded with a low slapper just 64 seconds after the drop of the puck. The period saw the Rattlers generate more scoring chances than the Waxers but were unable to beat Guadagnolo, the rookie tender also received outstanding support from his teammates who swarmed all over loose pucks and rebounds. Late in the period after it looked like Kevin Cribari had missed on a golden opportunity, Liam Bowen made no mistake from less than six feet out to conclude the scoring for the first. Pat Porretta picked up the second assist on the scoring play.

The middle frame saw the Waxers blow the lid off this contest as they scored five times to effectively remove any doubt as to it's eventual outcome. Around the six minute mark the blitz began as Daniel Torres scored his first Jr. goal from Michael Pain and Jamie Wright. Midway through Pain and Torres combined for a pair of scores within 52 seconds and the rout was on. Later in the period Bowen scored his second of the night and then Mark Menonte followed with his 3rd goal of the year just 25 seconds later.

The third period saw the Waxers and Guadagnolo up against a very determined Rattler squad (who deserve much credit for not quitting) but it would be Markham who would strike with the only two goals. Porretta with this 5th of the year and then in the last minute of the game Ben Boudreau broke away from everybody and scored his first goal of the year.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) the Waxers face the North York Rangers for the first time this season, game time is 8:30pm at Markham Centennial in the second game of an extended seven-game home stand that continues through October 18th.
