After the pre-game presentations were dispensed with the start of the long regular season got underway.

It took just over four minutes for the first goal of the year, the Waxers celebrating Markham's 100th year in the OHA, to be scored. Ryan Steane shoveled home a power play goal from Kevin Cribari and Tony Rossi. However the lead wouldn't last long with the Buzzers evening the score on a shorthanded goal just over a minute later. Two more Buzzer scores concluded the period with St. Mike's up 3-1.

The second period saw the Waxers outwork and out-chance the Buzzers, particularly in the first half of the period but only came away with a irons and near misses. The Buzzers scored what would turn out to be their final goal of the night with just over five minutes left in the period.

Regrouped after coming up empty and with a scoresheet that had them way down but not at all reflective of the control of the game the blue and white got the offense fired up for three goals in two minutes to even things up. Rossi notched his first Waxer goal, on a powerplay after he gathered up a rebound from a blast from the blade of Michael Pain. Just over a minute later Pain's drive from the left point hit the mesh on the short side, Mark Menonte with the assist. Then 47 seconds later Cribari slam-dunked the loose puck as the Waxers speed and pressure created multiple excellent scoring chances. Liam Bowen and Ryan Olidis with the assists on the final goal of the evening.

The tenders on both ends made several good stops, for the Waxers, Kevin Sit came up with several big stops late in regulation.

In overtime after two minutes had elapsed Cribari wired a drive off the post from the right faceoff circle. However, it would be the Waxer penalty killing and Sit who would be tasked with shutting the door after the Waxers fell a man short at the halfway mark.

No rest for the blue and white as they faceoff against the Pickering Panthers tomorrow night (Sat.) at 8:00pm at Markham Centennial..
