Markham went in to one of the toughest arenas to play in on Thursday night and came away with a well deserved 4-3 victory over the North Division leading Newmarket Hurricanes.

After the Hurricanes opened the scoring in the first period, Steve Nobili got the Waxers on the board when he stuffed home a rebound after a Derek Doucette shot off a rush.  Newmarket would reclaim the lead in the last minute of the first period.

Markham would score the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead in the second.  First, after some good forechecking caused a turnover behind the Hurricanes net, Nobili centered the puck to Michael Fish in the high slot and he buried a wrist shot  over the glove of the Newmarket goalie.  Then, at the 16 minute mark, the Waxers capitalized on a powerplay as they moved the puck around to Pat Porretta and his blast from the point gave the Waxers the lead.  Jesse Boucher and Kevin Cribari earned assists.  Newmarket would tie the game in the last minute of play in the second.

The third period was scoreless until the final five minutes when the Waxers scored the winning goal.  A strong attack on a 3-on-2 lead by Doucette resulted in a good chance by Boucher.  The Hurricane goalie stopped the puck but was unable to corral the rebound and Mark Skeels swooped in burying his first Jr A goal and giving the Waxers the victory.

The Waxers played a strong, game plan oriented game and outshot the Hurricanes 31-21 on the evening.  Chris Lawrence played a solid game in net for the win.
