A disappointing effort after what occurred Friday
saw the Waxers get out muscled, out worked and out scored by the Rattlers in a
7-3 defeat.
Michael Diamond opened the scoring with his
first Junior A goal on a nice end-to-end rush for the only lead the Waxers
would hold. Kevin Cribari and Joey Grasso had assists. The period
would end 2-1 for Thornhill.
After falling behind 3-1, the Waxers surged
back scoring twice in a span of less than 4 minutes to tie the game 3-3.
The first of the two goals was scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay when Mark Menonte
fed Derek Doucette for a one-timer from the point. Jesse Boucher
deflected the puck up and under the cross bar for the goal. Then, just
over 3 minutes later, Jason Duffy found Doucette joining the rush late and slid
the puck over to him in the high slot. Doucette's fuirst shot was stopped
but he banged home his own rebound to tie the score, albeit briefly.
Thornhill would score the winning goal the next shift, just 23 seconds later,
and deflate the only energy the Waxers showed all evening.
The third period saw the Rattlers add one
early, and two late, to claim the well deserved 7-3 victory.
