In what was (in this person's opinion anyways) the
best game of Junior A hockey this year, the Wexford Raiders defeated the Waxers
3-1 snapping their modest two game winning streak. Fast paced, exciting
end to end action from start to finish produced a game in which the Waxers out
shot the Raiders 41-26.
The home squad opened the scoring almost 9
minutes in to the game but the Waxers responded less than one minute
later. Mark Menonte
corralled a loose puck below the goal line and while going behind the net,
passed the puck out the way he came to a wide open Jesse
Boucher in the slot. Boucher's hard wrister to the top corner tied
the game 1-1. Wexford would score in the final minute of the first period
and then 4:06 in to the third period to complete the scoring.
Hockey is a funny game as this effort was the
best of the season for the Waxers yet they came away empty handed.
Markham's confidence has returned and the boys are playing the style of hockey
needed to survive in the tough and competitive South Division. The Waxers
look to string together a lengthy winning streak starting this coming weekend
against the Oshawa Legionaires (November 2, 8:00pm).
