A home and home week with the Ajax Axemen ended in a sweep for the Waxers as they rode Jason Young's overtime winning goal to a 7-6 victory. The Waxers had tied the game with 1.64 seconds left on the clock in regulation to send the game in to overtime.

The first period started well for the visitors as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after just over 12 minutes had been played. The Waxers would respond with 4:45 left in the period to make the score 2-1 after the first. After winning the draw in the Markham end, Mark Menonte took off and got in behind the Ajax defense where Jesse Boucher found him with a perfect pass for the breakaway goal.

The Waxers did all the scoring in the second period to take a 3-2 lead in to the third period. Joey Grasso scored his first goal as a Waxer on a power play in the opening minutes of the second period. Grasso was parked in front and deflected Pat Diotte's point shot with Pat Porretta earning the other assist. Then, midway through the period, Derek Doucette corralled the puck below the goal line and went end-to-end for an unassisted goal and the lead.

Ajax would tie the game in the first minute of the third period and the shoot out was on. Ben Cottreau scored his first of two on the night just over one minute later when he grabbed his own rebound and slid it under the sprawling tender. Grasso picked up the only assist. The Axemen would strike twice in the next 5 minutes for a 5-4 lead before Grasso and Cottreau combined to find Albert Ferrante all alone in the high slot and the tying goal. Ajax would take the lead 6-5 with 9:37 left on the clock and looked like they had the two points until the last two seconds of regulation. After pulling the goalie and having two mad scrambles in the goal mouth off two faceoffs, Boucher moved the puck behind the net to Menonte who slid it in front to Cottreau and he roofed a shot in to the upper corner with just 1.64 seconds left on the clock.

That set the stage for Young's heroics in overtime. On a power play, Paul Robinson, Porretta and Young combined on a three way passing play which ended with Young streaking down the middle of the box and his quick wrist shot found the back of the net and ended one of the most exciting and fan friendly games of the year.
