Finally the Waxers did what they hadn't done in
well over two years (since the realignment into a four division league), they
defeated the Buzzers at St. Michael's College Arena. The win was well earned,
combining outstanding goaltending and hard work the Waxers blanked the Buzzers
4-0 with Rick Marnon
earning his second consecutive shutout.
The Waxers struck early when Kevin
Cribari took a great pass straight up the gut at the Buzzers' blueline
and outraced the defenders for a breakaway goal, his 18th of the year. Mike
Harding and Jimmy Ball
with the helpers.
Ball had the hit of the night when he absolutely
crushed a St. Mike's attacker in the neutral zone just inside the red line with
a beautiful open ice hit. Later in the game Adam
Doucette and Alex Stoyan
would deliver big hits as well.
The Buzzers had several outstanding chances in
the early stages of the middle frame, taking advantage of the man advantage
situations to prevent the Waxers from gaining any type of momentum, however
Marnon was more than up to the challenge turning aside all comers.
Later in the period Adam Doucette unleashed his
lethal wrist shot but was denied by a great glove save by the Buzzers goalie. A
couple of minutes later he'd get another chance and this time he'd beat the
keeper to put the Waxers up 2-0. Adam's 30th goal of the year was assisted by
younger brother Derek
Doucette and Mark
Menonte.
St. Michael's College student James
Regan more or less iced the win with 35 seconds left in the period when
he flipped home the 3-0 goal, Ball and Andy
Schofield with the assists.
Jesse
Boucher's 34th goal of the year early in the final period concluded the
scoring for the night, Cribari and Schofield with the helpers.
Marnon was full marks for the shutout, he was
called upon to make several tough stops and the Waxers have rallied around the
American-born netminder.
Monday night the Waxers hit the road again for
their third game in four nights when they visit the Vaughan Vipers.
