The Waxers came out of the gate flying and save for a three or four minutes of the period the boys from Markham owned the period. Midway through the first netminder Paul Guthrie outletted a pass to Paul Robinson at the Waxer blueline who then relayed a perfect pass to Bobby Fitkin at the Ajax blueline to spring Fitkin on a breakaway, the Ajax netminder came out for a poke check, a Fitkin deke and a two foot putt put the Waxers in front 1-0. Just over a minute later Kevin Tompkins and Kevin Cribari combined to send Mark Menonte on a breakaway, again no mistake by Menonte as he tucked in his 14th of the season in his first full game since he was injured in Huntsville.

The second period was the absolute opposite of the first period for the Waxers. The Axemen scored twice in the first five minutes to tie the game. Things were looking the blue and white way, six seconds after the Axemen tied it up, Jason Duffy finished off a quick rush from the faceoff when he whipped a shot past the Axemen keeper from high on the left faceoff circle, Jesse Boucher and Fitkin earned assists. The Axemen outworked and outplayed the Waxers the rest of the way and took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

Eight minutes into the final period Brent Pollock made a smart play from the point, moving into the middle to receive the pass and wired one home to tie the game at 4-4, Robinson and Jason Young earned assists.

The Axemen would get the eventual game winner late in the period and then would add an empty netter with just two seconds remaining.

The Waxers record now sits at 16-8 as they begin to embark on the second half of the regular season schedule and the stretch run for the top spot in the South Division.

The Waxers now get a week off to prepare for an important part of their schedule beginning with a match against the Buzzers in Markham Friday night and then conclude with a road contest in Wexford Sunday night.
