Markham could do nothing right in the first two periods, falling behind 6-1 but then with about five minutes remaining the offensive gears unleashed their fury upon the Huntsville cage and they closed to within 7-5 (the seventh goal an empty netter), there was no doubt that if the clock had an additional couple of minutes on it that the Waxers would have pulled out the win. The offensive explosion late in the third and the complete collapse of the Wildcats as they cowered beneath the scoring might of the Waxers was something that had not been witnessed by many oldtimers, at any level, let alone Junior.

The first period was a Waxer disaster as they gave up three goals, two shorthanded before four minutes had even elapsed. James Regan sent one through the five hole to get the Waxers on the board, Patrick Diotte and Jimmy Ball drawing assists.

Huntsville added a pair in the last two minutes of the second period to seemingly ice this one with a period still remaining. With just over five minutes remaining Kevin Tompkins scored on a powerplay from Jason Young to cut the deficit to 6-2. Less than two minutes later Jesse Boucher scored his 18th of the year from Bobby Fitkin to make it 6-3.

At that moment the momentum had clearly shifted and the Huntsville coaches realizing this called a timeout. The Waxers continued to pour it on but surrendered an empty net goal with 90 seconds left. The Waxers then pumped home a pair in the final minute to stun just about everybody in the rink.

Certainly a disappointing loss for the Waxers but the no quit attitude that they've showed all year, especially on a night like this when the game was "out of reach" bodes well for the future.

The Waxers now get a much needed break before they take on the Thornhill Rattlers at Markham on Friday night.
