The Waxers finished off their third
game in four nights in convincing fashion as they overpowered the visiting
Tigers by a 10-1 margin. A six-goal uprising in the opening frame set the stage
for a contest that had the final margin of victory as the lone question mark in
a contest completely dominated by Markham.
Jason
Fraccaro scored the first of his two, on a powerplay just two minutes
into the contest, Paul
Robinson and Robert
Burrows assisting. Half a minute later Jesse
Boucher scored the first of his three when he converted a feed from Jason
Duffy to make it 2-0. Killing a penalty in the second half of the
period Mark Menonte
raced away to a breakaway and made no mistake, scoring his fourth of the year
and second shorthanded effort to date. Jimmy
Ball and Patrick
Diotte assisted. Aurora followed with a powerplay goal to make it 3-1
but it would take less than minute for the Waxers to answer when Robinson fed
Fraccaro with a feed for a slam dunk, Fraccaro's second goal of the night. A
minute later the Waxers combined for two more scores in a span of thirty-six
seconds to make it 6-1. Bobby Fitkin scored his second of the year from Boucher and Duffy and then Kevin
Cribari scored his first Jr. A goal from Steve
Kelly and Albert
Ferrante and the only thing in doubt was the margin of victory.
The Waxers upped their lead to
7-1 when Ball scored a powerplay goal, his fourth of the year, from Diotte and Kevin
Tompkins in the final minute of the second period.
Markham hit double digits for
the first time this year with three more in the final period. Jason Young
scored his fourth of the year, also a powerplay marker, from Tompkins and Menonte at the
seven minute mark to increase Markham's lead to 8-1. A minute later Boucher
scored his second of the evening from Diotte and Duffy to make it 9-1. The
scoring concluded mercifully for the visiting Tigers when Boucher completed his
hat trick with a pretty rush from the left wing and potted his seventh of the
year and his first Jr. A hat trick.
Dan
Leclair was outstanding in net, particularly in the first period when
the outcome was still in question. In particular he made a stunning, highlight
reel stop to thwart a sure Aurora goal when he went from side to side and got
his pad on a pretty setup on a two-man Tiger rush.
The Waxers next face the Vaughan
Vipers on Friday night (8:00pm start) and then host the Wexford Raiders on
Saturday (7:30pm) to finish off their opening month's schedule.
