The Thornhill Rattlers defeated the Markham Waxers 6-2 in a contest that didn't see the final score reflect the actual competition at ice level.

A physical game, often feisty, the Waxers simply didn't have things go their way in what was one of three season ending contests that are somewhat meaningless in that Markham had already locked up fourth spot in the division.

Thornhill took a 2-0 lead before Jason Fraccaro scored a pretty goal deking the Rattler netminder after passes by linemates Paul Robinson and Greg Chambers helped create the opportunity. The Rattlers would answer back later with a pair of quick goals to go up 4-1.

The third period saw Mike Stoyan score his first of the year with a drive from the point to make it 5-2. Jim Ulcar and James Regan picked up helpers.

Jeremy Wenzel did nothing that tainted his crown as the League's number one netminder as he was often left to his own devices as at times the Waxers defensive play was less than ideal. The Waxers are looking forward to the return of Jimmy Ball and Lawne Snyder, two of the best blueliners in the entire League they should be ready for the two tuneup contests prior to the start of the playoffs in a little over a week from now. The Waxers first round opponent is unknown at this time but as soon as it is determined a schedule is made up you'll be sure to see it published on this site in a timely manner.

The Waxers conclude their regular season with a pair contests against Stouffville and Vaughan. The Stouffville contest is at Markham Centennial at 8:00pm and features two special ceremonies that you won't want to miss: Graduation Appreciation Night where graduating seniors Tom Kotsopoulos, Rob Mazzuca, Lawne Snyder and Jeremy Wenzel will be honoured in a pre-game ceremony. And if that isn't enough the Year of the Goaltender celebration which will continue through Saturday (at the Waxers Dinner and Silent Auction) will see the retirement of Waxer goaltender sweater numbers.

The Waxers final game of the regular slate has them on the road in Vaughan on Monday night. Barring any unexpected events the suspended contest between Aurora and Markham on September 27, 1999 will not be played to it's conclusion.
