Once again the Markham Waxers rebound from a sub-par performance with an effort that shows the true calibre of the team as they defeated the Ajax Axemen 3-2.

The Waxers took control of the game from the onset and didn't let Ajax have a sniff until late in the game when the Waxers were ahead 3-0.

The Axemen made it close with two goals three minutes apart but only garnered two shots on goal in the final 4:34, both from well out.

Jeremy Wenzel played a strong game in net for the Waxers, especially in the second period when the Waxers were shorthanded for most of the period.

The Waxers opened the scoring in the first period on a powerplay when Wenzel caught the Axemen on a change and head manned the puck to Joel Kitchen who fed Greg Chambers down the wing and Chambers whistled a wrist shot past the Axemen netminder for a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes.

The second period saw the Waxers kill off five straight penalties before getting a chance on the powerplay and they made it count. On a 5-3, Jimmy Ball and Jim Ulcar quarterbacked the action until they spotted David Colucci at the side of the net and he one-timed the pass into the open cage.

The third period was an entertaining one with the Waxers and Axemen swarming around each others nets. With just over nine minutes remaining, Paul Robinson made a great clearing pass out of the Waxer end to spring Chambers and Colucci on a 2-on-1 and Chambers fed Colucci for his second goal of the game and put Markham in front 3-0 at the time.
