Newmarket defeated Markham 7-1 Thursday night in Newmarket as the Hurricanes won for the second time in as many meetings this year.

The Waxers fell behind 2-0 after the first period but held a distinct edge in play for the opening twenty minutes but weren't able to cash any of their chances.

Newmarket would score three times in the second before the Waxers would finally get on the board. With just over six minutes remaining in the period, David Colucci scored a pretty goal as he waited out the Hurricane netminder and lifted the puck over the keeper who had flopped to the ice. Chris Petracco and Jeremy Wenzel picked up assists.

The Hurricanes would score the only two goals of the third period to conclude the scoring.

The Waxers along with their tough luck around the net didn't get any help from elsewhere either as they had three goals disallowed. Two of them were clearly goals but were ruled that they didn't enter the net, a third goal was rightfully waived off when the official ruled the whistle blew before it went in.

The Waxers tough schedule continues this weekend when they face cross-town rivals, the strong Thornhill Rattlers at home on Friday night before concluding at Wexford Sunday evening.
