The Vaughan Vipers bested the Markham Waxers for the second time in as many meetings between these two clubs this season, this time by a 3-0 count.

Vaughan scored late in the first period on a powerplay with a screened shot.

After a scoreless second period the Vipers extended their margin to 2-0 with a two-man rush that saw the Waxers trapped moments after a Viper penalty expired, Waxers netminder Jeremy Wenzel made a spectacular save on the shot but the rebound went right to the following Viper attacker who lifted over the helpless Markham goalkeeper. A late powerplay goal concluded the scoring.

The Waxers received outstanding netminding from Wenzel, something that we and all Waxer observers are going to enjoy getting used to as he gave his club a chance to win.

Markham was heavily depleted due to the injury bug they were able to generate some excellent scoring chances. In particular Joel Kitchen, Kevin Tompkins, David Colucci and Jimmy Ball all had great opportunities to score only to be thwarted by a great save or to ding one off the netminder's best friend, the post.

The Waxers next play on Thursday night when they face the Newmarket Hurricanes in Newmarket before coming home on Friday to take on the cross-town rival Thornhill Rattlers.
