The Waxers closed out the month of October on a winning note, this time
6-2 over the North York Rangers in a contest that saw Markham play solid
hockey for a full 60 minutes and the results showed on the scoreboard.
Markham struck first when Mike
Carlesimo, who had pinched in from the blueline took a pass from
Robbie Burrows and shoveled the puck home, David
Colucci also picked up an assist on the play. However, the Rangers
would even the score less than a minute later. At the seven minute mark
Colucci scored his seventh of the year from Chris
Petracco and James
Regan but once again, the Rangers would turn the tables evening
the score at 2-2 just 26 seconds later. Carlesimo scored his second of the
night from Joel Kitchen
and Burrows to put Markham in front 3-2. Greg
Chambers scored his tenth of the year, the first Waxer to hit
double figures this season when he combined with Petracco and Jimmy
Ball for a powerplay marker with just over a minute remaining in
the opening period.
Ball scored his fifth of the year, a shorthanded effort that saw
Petracco and Colucci pick up helpers.
Colucci scored a goal scorer's goal in the third period when he scored
a powerplay marker from Kevin
Tompkins and Chambers, Colucci had the puck in the slot and waited
for the goalie to commit before he calmly lifted the puck over the
helpless netminder to conclude the scoring for the evening.
The contest was a fast paced affair that saw the Waxers dominate the
play but more importantly they played excellent team defense. The game,
the shortest of the year for the Waxers was just two hours and six minutes
from start to finish.
Chris DelRosario
made several notable saves in the second and third periods after splitting
time with Jeremy Wenzel
in the opening frame, the young Markham native made good on his chance to
play this evening as clearly the Waxers are going to go with the more
experience Wenzel most of the way from here on out.
The Waxers next face the Vaughan Vipers on Monday, November 1st in what
will be surely a good test for the Markham squad as they face the league's
stingiest team in terms of goals against in the Vipers.
