WORTH
NOTING... |
| The Waxers offensive explosion
was thorough and convincing. It was even more impressive when you consider that every
player except one on the lineup earned at least one point. The 15 goals and 42 scoring points are season highs. Remarkably there
was not one powerplay amongst the debris.
Sisca's two goal night was the fourth
time this season the talented 1983-born centre has accomplished that feat.
The real story however, is Forsyth was just
incredible. There were a few things that made it even more amazing:
(a) it was a road game;
(b) he had one assist in the first period;
(c) two assists in the second period; and
(d) three assists in the final period.
You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team
is going places - big time! |
The Markham Waxers outright destroyed the Shelburne Wolves on Tuesday night (at
Alliston in a makeup of earlier postponement) with a season-high 15-1 romp.
The Waxers struck early on Ian Malcolm's
39th goal of the season from Brett Barrer
and Rob Bumbaco at the three
minute mark. Less than a minute later Alex
Stoyan drove a bullet from well out that went through the Wolves' netminder
and the Waxers were up 2-0.
Netminder B.J. Forsyth picked
up his second assist of the season on Stoyan's goal and his first assist en route to a
record-setting performance.
David Colucci scored his
19th of the year taking a feed from Daniel
Sisca and carrying the puck all the way and firing from close range for his
second shorthanded goal as a Waxer. Robert
Burrows scored at the nine-minute mark to make it 4-0 with assists going to
Sisca and Andrew Welch. At the
12-minute mark Barrer netted his 19th from Malcolm and Bumbaco. Malcolm scored his second
of the night, 40th of the season from Locky
Gelinas and Burrows with just over a minute left in the period. Bryan Lachapelle scored his
16th of the season from Kevin Tompkins
and Ryan Bayliss with just 10
seconds showing on the clock to give the Waxers a commanding 7-0 lead after one period.
Sisca scored his 19th of the season from Colucci and Rob Mazzuca just over a minute
into the second period to make it 8-0. Mike
Clarke then scored two consecutive goals just over three minutes apart to
lift the Waxers in front 10-0. Clarke's first goal was a shorthanded effort from Burrows
and Forsyth (number two) and his second goal was from Burrows and Lachapelle. Malcolm
scored his hat trick goal, his 41st of the season from Barrer and Lawne Snyder with five and half
minutes remaining in the period. Less than two minutes later, Mike Stoyan,
brother of Waxers' defender Alex scored his first goal from Mazzuca and Forsyth (his
second assist of the period and third of the night) and the Waxers led 12-0 after 40
minutes.
Mazzuca scored his 13th from Forsyth at the four minute mark of the final period to
make it 13-0. Malcolm scored his 42nd of the year, fourth of the night, shorthanded, from
Barrer and Forsyth to make it 14-0. Shelburne finally got on the board, during a powerplay
spoiling Forsyth's shutout bid with just under five minutes to play. Sisca scored just
over a minute later, his 20th of the season, from Mazzuca and Forsyth to conclude the
barrage. B.J.'s assist on the last goal was his third of the period and his sixth of the
contest.
Incredibly, Forsyth drew assists on six of the Waxers
goals. Now, anybody earning six assists would have had a great game, but this is just
absolutely unreal.
Forsyth turned aside 23 of 24 shots to earn the victory, his second as a Waxer.
The Waxers dominated the game start to finish and peppered the Shelburne netminders
with a season-high 74 shots that were well spread out: 20 shots first period; 29 shots in
the second; and 25 shots in the final period.
The Waxers next game is Thursday, February 18 when Markham invades Stouffville. EDITOR
