The Stouffville Spirit defeated the Markham Waxers 4-2
at Centennial Arena on Friday night. After a scoreless first period the Spirit got on
the board first before David Colucci
scored his 18th goal of the season (13th in 20 games as a Waxer) as he put a shot along
the ice past the Stouffville netminder. Daniel
Sisca picked up the assist on the scoring play which occured just before the
four minute mark of the period. The Spirit roared right back and took the lead less than
two minutes later. Midway through the period Rob
Bumbaco fired a bullet by the Stouffville netminder to tie the game once
again this time at 2-2. Ian Malcolm
and Brett Barrer picked up
helpers on Bumbaco's score.
The third period saw the Spirit go ahead very late in the contest and then ice the
victory with an empty net goal.
B.J. Forsyth was spectacular
at times and although he might have wished to have a goal or two back he certainly could
not be faulted for the defeat. It was only Forsyth's eight appearance of the season as
he's a good one (he was drafted by the Guelph Storm of the OHL and was with them for a
short while).
The Waxers ran into a bit of bad luck where the Stouffville netminder, a journeyman
20-year-old goalkeeper seemingly stood on his head to keep the Waxers from scoring at
times. Although he did make some good stops, and give him credit, the Waxers quite often
blasted shots right at his mid-section and helped him look better than he was. EDITOR
