WORTH NOTING...

The Waxers have received excellent production from the Barrer, Malcolm and Bumbaco line the past five games. Malcolm has scored at least once in each of his past five games; Barrer 10 points; and Bumbaco has 12 points.

The come-from-behind victory illustrates well the attitude prevailing on the club. This is a team that doesn't like to lose.

Clarke picked up a pair of assists and his play of late has been perhaps the most consistent of all the Waxer defence corps.

"You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team is going places - big time!

The Waxers extended their unbeaten string to 9 games with a spirited come-from-behind victory in their final regular season meeting with the Thornhill Rattlers.

The game was a sloppy one for the Waxers for the initial 40 minutes however the boys dug down deep for the final 20 minutes when it was a complete dominating effort.

The Waxers started the game okay and led 1-0 after three and a half minutes when Chris Petracco finished off a pretty three-way passing play from Mike Clarke and Bryan Lachapelle. Thornhill tied the game on the powerplay a little over two minutes later in what would be their only powerplay goal out of 10 tries on the evening. The Waxers jumped ahead 3-1 scoring twice in a four-minute span before the lead was cut to 3-2 at the end of the first. Kevin Tompkins scored the second goal on a bullet wrist shot after being setup by Brett Barrer. The third goal came when strong forechecking by Joel Kitchen and Locky Gelinas caused a turnover that Ryan Bayliss batted out of the air and into the net.

The second period was one the Waxers would like to forget as the Rattlers outscored them 3-1, including three unanswered to surge ahead 5-3 with only two minutes left in the period. Barrer then cut the lead to one pouncing on a rebound on a powerplay and roofing home the fourth goal with just over a minute left in the period, with Ian Malcolm and Clarke getting assists.

The third period started off the way the second ended with Barrer scoring the tying goal just over a minute into the third on a similar play to the Waxers first goal of the night. He stuffed home a centering pass after Rob Bumbaco had fed Malcolm at the side of the net on a 3-on-2 break. Just over four minutes later, David Colucci scored the winning goal as he was sent in all alone by an Alex Stoyan pass and made no mistake beating the goalie to the glove hand. Then, 34 seconds later, Malcolm scored an insurance marker with a wrist shot from the top of the circle using the Rattler defender as a screen after a nice breakout pass by Bumbaco.

The comeback was complete as the Waxers scored 4 unanswered goals in a span of 9 minutes and never let the Rattlers have a sniff of a chance for a comeback themselves thereafter. Tom Lawson played goal stopping 25 shots to earn his 16th victory of the year. The Waxers are now 7-2-2 in 1999 and sit in fifth place with a 25-13-4-2 record, good fo 56 points. RH
