WORTH NOTING...

The Waxers completely dominated the Raiders from whistle to whistle with very few exceptions, that can't happen unless there is a complete and total team effort, that was the story this night.

Lawson finally earned his first Junior shutout after earning 22 in his last two years of high school hockey.

Stoyan's play on the blueline has been a big contributing factor to the success of the Waxers

Tompkins' opening goal and the way it was accomplished set the tone for the entire contest, strange perhaps to state that the turning point happened in the opening seconds but it says here it was

Bumbaco and Colucci both had excellent games, Bumbaco had the numbers, Colucci just can't seem to buy a break lately. Look for a huge game from #22 when he breaks out soon

"You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team is going places - big time!

The Markham Waxers defeated the visiting Wexford Raiders Friday night at Centennial Arena 5-0 and extended their impressive unbeaten streak to eight consecutive games (6-0-2). More importantly the victory put some serious distance between the Waxers and sixth-place Wexford in the playoff hunt and barring a total collapse (which isn't going to happen to this team) the Raiders have no hope of catching Markham.

The Waxers got things started in a hurry when Kevin Tompkins finished off a game opening rush for his 11th of the season from Bryan Lachapelle and Chris Petracco. Seven minutes into the period Rob Bumbaco popped in his 19th of the season, during a powerplay, from Jimmy Ball and Brett Barrer to make it 2-0 Waxers. The Waxers outshot the Raiders 20-11 in the period that saw Markham completely dominate the play at times.

The Waxers added another pair in the second period to increase their lead to 4-0 after two complete. Alex Stoyan drove home a bullet into the top shelf from Daniel Sisca who fed the faceoff back to Stoyan at the point. Team leading scorer Ian Malcolm connected on another powerplay just past the midway mark of the frame for his 36th of the season to make it 4-0. Barrer and Bumbaco drew assists. The Waxers outshot Wexford once again, this time by a 22-16 margin.

The third period saw Petracco net his 15th of the season from Lachapelle and Ball. That would mark the end of the scoring on the night.

The Waxers outshot the Raiders 54-38 for the night, give credit to the Raider netminder who kept the score as close as it was.

Tom Lawson turned aside all Raider attempts to earn his first shutout. Lawson made a few spectacular saves including one that robbed the Raider attacker on a clearcut breakaway.

The Waxers don't get much time to rest however as they face the rival Thornhill Rattlers at Thornhill Saturday evening at 7:30. EDITOR
