The Markham Waxers recovered from an early second period deficit, trailing 3-1, the Waxers came all the way back and eventually took to the bank an well-earned 7-4 victory with a solid effort and a complete team effort.

The Terriers held the edge in play or at worst weren't outplayed in the opening period and skated away with a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. After falling behind 2-0 it would take almost the entire period before the Waxers would finally score and what an important goal that would be as it came with just 20 seconds remaining in the period. David Colucci scored his 16th of the year from Daniel Sisca and Rob Mazzuca. The Waxers only managed 7 shots on the Couchiching net in that opening period.

WORTH NOTING...

The Barrer, Malcolm, Bumbaco line combined for 10 scoring points.

Welch picked up his first goal in a Waxer jersey, in his second game as he demonstrated to everyone his ability to fire it.

Lachapelle and Tompkins both continue to play strong two-way hockey.

The Waxers took only two minor penalties as they played a tremendously disciplined game without sacrificing their aggressiveness. "You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team is going places - big time!

The second period was a high-scoring affair and saw a total of six goals scored. The Terriers extended their lead to 3-1 in the opening minute before the "show began". Ian Malcolm scored the first of his three on the evening just over four minutes into the period, Rob Bumbaco and Mike Clarke earning helpers. Then, on the same shift, 15 seconds later, Malcolm did it again this time with help from Alex Stoyan and the game was knotted at 3-3. Midway through the period Couchiching scored what would be their final goal of the contest to take a 4-3 lead. However that lead would be shortlived, lasting only 41 seconds to be precise as Bumbaco scored his 15th of the year from Malcolm and Brett Barrer. Then later in the period Andrew Welch completing a solo rush, pulled up just inside the blue line and unleashed a top corner rocket to make it 5-4. That would the first time in the contest that the Waxers would lead the game and they'd not relinquish it.

The third period saw the Waxers score twice more to conclude the scoring. Bumbaco netted his second of the night, 16th of the year from Malcolm and Barrer. Then with just over four minutes remaining, Malcolm netted his hat trick marker, his 32nd of the season from Lawne Snyder.

Tom Lawson earned the victory in net turning aside 26 of 30 Terrier shots, including all 13 shots he faced in the third period.

The Waxers next game is Friday night as they host the surging Durham Huskies (they split a weekend home-and-home series with the Collingwood Blues, winning Saturday's contest 5-4 in overtime).

Friday night is also Adam Oates Appreciation Night, his sweater (Number 10) will be retired in a ceremony (click here for details). EDITOR
